Somewhere in Vermont a Lunatic is Missing
February 21, 2005

Not to the surprise of myself and others who understand how off-the-wall liberals are nowadays, Howard Dean was elected chairman of the DNC on February 12.

Now of course we can expect Dean to try his hardest to reform a party which is already in shambles into “The Party of the People“ again. He may even do that considering how strong he was during the campaign.

But what Dean will not do is help Democrats get elected. Allowing Howard Dean to vanguard the reformation of the Democratic Party will ultimately take a Left-wing party and make it an extreme Left-wing party (perhaps the Chairman should be getting advice from Fidel Castro on that matter).

Once again — to my dismay — the issue of race has arisen on the political scene. And it once again involves a Democrat (Dean) saying some revealing remark which is completely ignored by the main stream media.

On February 11, the day before Mr. Dean was elected chairman, he let his guard down in the strangest of all places and slipped this comment about African-Americans: “You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here.”

Not only did Dean imply that hotel workers are only blacks, he said it in front of the DNC Black Caucus. Surprisingly, Americans seem to be more outraged than the African-Americans sitting in the audience listening to Mr. Dean’s derogatory remarks.

Democrats aren’t new at the game of insulting minorities with racial remarks. We all remember how Condoleezza Rice was persecuted by liberals with despicable cartoons and how liberals played the race card several years ago with a television ad which said that for every Republican elected a black church would burn.

I find it outrageous that only conservatives seem to be disgusted by Dean’s remarks. Haven’t heard much from the Jewish or Hispanics; the African-Americans in the audience haven’t said much either.

Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele and former Rep. J. C. Watts, both Republicans and African-Americans, expressed their disgust in a joint statement: “We are simply outraged over recent racially insensitive remarks by Democratic National Committee Chair Howard Dean. In his comments to the Democratic Black Caucus, Dean equates African-Americans who support Republicans to hired help.”

Isn’t it interesting how when a Left-winger says a racist comment he’s surrounded by an army of apologists and ignored by the media but when a southern Republican says a racially incorrect remark he’s burned at the steak.

You may remember back in 2002 when Trent Lott praised Strom Thurmond at a birthday bash and said that he was proud of voting for Thurmond for president. Thurmond ran as a segregationist.

You may also remember the massive media attention it drew. Lott’s private home in Mississippi was swarmed with obnoxious news reporters and the calls of Democrats and Republicans alike eventually caused Lott to surrender his senate majority leader seat.

I believe Dean deserves similar treatment and, although I do not know if it calls for his resignation, I do believe Dean owes African-Americans an apology. If this is a sign of things to come then the Democratic Party will continue doing what it does best — moving backwards.
